pregnancy
  • A first pregnancy brings with it an array of apprehensions. Quite common among them is that of foetal movement. Even though the baby begins to move from as ealy as about the 9th week, you may not feel foetal movements before the 18th week.
Though foetal movements may be intermitent during the early stages, as the baby grows, the kicking movements increase. If the baby doesn't move for long periods, don't panic. They can lie still for several hours. Around the 24th week, a baby can lie still for up to 20-22 hours.
If you thought that babies move more at night than during the day, you're mistaken. This could be only because during the day, you are too busy to notice the subtle movements. Most parents like to believe that the baby will be very active if he/she moves a lot in the belly. This too is a misconception. Also, predicting the sex of a baby by the degree of movement within the womb is not possible.
